Representing Highlands Ranch

A Lifetime of Public Service to Her State and Community

An Unmatched Record of Effective Leadership and Governance

I’m Lora Thomas, starting my final of eight years as your Douglas County Commissioner. For the past several months, many of my fellow Highlands Ranch residents have personally expressed their concern about our representation of House District 43 at the State Capitol.  Time and again I have heard that, when it comes to the issues that matter most to us—public safety, the continuous rise in the basic cost of living, parental control over the important issues affecting their children’s education, and rising taxes, particularly skyrocketing property taxes—Bob Marshall and the Democrats have failed us on every front.

My fellow Highlands Ranch residents, it is time to take that seat back and restore the proper focus to the governance of our state. I am pleased and honored to be a candidate to serve you as the next State Representative from Colorado House District 43, not for any personal political desire or design, but because your futures and the future of our community and state are at stake. It's about applying my experience and abilities to continue to serve the people I have been working with and representing for over a dozen years here in Douglas County.

I am running for HD43 because the people of Highlands Ranch agree with me that we need to restore confidence in our government’s ability to directly and effectively deal with rising crime, rather than turning a blind eye to criminal activity and refusing to hold criminals accountable, as Marshall and the Democrats have done.

We need to empower parental oversight and control of public education instead of turning more and more authority over to the teachers’ union, which has Marshall and the Democrats in its pocket.

We MUST make living in Colorado affordable again by getting government spending under control and stop expanding the social welfare programs embraced by Marshall and the Democrats, and instead promote the growth of the private sector rather than government bureaucracy.

Ever-growing/expanding government means the need for ever-growing/expanded taxation.  Marshall and the Democrats think you are not taxed nearly enough; I think we are taxed too much, especially on private property.  And after we resoundingly told the Democrat majority at the Capitol “NO WAY!” on Prop HH, rather than clearly getting our message to actually fix the problem of skyrocketing property taxes, Marshall and the Democrats forced upon us more and bigger state government while taking more of our TABOR refunds!  When I go to the State Capitol, I will insist on practical solutions that provide real tax relief for Colorado taxpayers without expanding the size and scope of government!

We need leaders at the Capitol who will look out for us and listen to us—all we have received from Bob Marshall and the Democrats is a blind-eye to crime and the high cost of living, and a deaf ear to our pleas for real property tax relief! If you agree with our friends and neighbors who want smart, responsible, common-sense governance returned to our Capitol, then please join with us so we can work together for the return of safe streets/communities, affordable living and local/parental control of the education of our children!

I don’t just talk the talk, I walk the walk, and my extensive record of effective leadership proves it!

I’m ready to get to work for YOU, the people of Highlands Ranch, and once again make our state government responsive and effective!

“It has been my privilege to serve the people of my state and community as a State Trooper, Coroner and County Commissioner, and I want to bring my lifetime of effective public service experience to the State Capitol in representing the residents of House District 43 to work for common-sense solutions to the public safety, affordability and education problems facing us all.”
